In Turkish culture, there are some special kinds of liquids that are prepared with different ingredients and spices. Turkish people calls this “şerbet(sherbet)”
Şerbet has a similar taste of many “syrups” considering its sugary taste. However, in Turkish culture, there are many different kinds of şerbets that are served and drunk for several reasons, such as ceremonies, including weddings, deaths, births etc. Also, in western culture or other regions of the world, people used to drink similar delicious tastes:”sourbet”
The most popular şerbet in turkey is probably “demirhindi” şerbeti, the most popular reason to prepare and serve is birth(still). In the Ottoman culture, şerbet was the most popular drink that accompanied many meals and dishes.

Today, ın turkey, this custom is about to be forgotten. Even so, still,we see some traditional şerbet street sellers in the most historical and well-known touristic area of Istanbul, in Sultanahmet. They wear their traditional clothes and back –barrels? (which they put the şerbet in and pour it through its narrow tube) and try to sustain the carry on this tradition.
So, to make this clear in our mind, I’ve made an interview with a şerbet seller in Sultanahmet. You will see how interesting the lives of sellers and the approach of tourists to them.
