Kebab, the food that everyone around the world identifies as the crown jewel of Turkish cuisine. It is served in many ways depending on the region, the restaurant, and preferences of the cook. However, when talking street food, the only way to go is with döner kebab. When you are walking down the street and you see an obscene mass of meat slowly turning on a vertical skewer, yeah, that's döner kebab. In Istanbul, you have the choice of either chicken or beef kebab served on either a bread roll or a lavaş wrap. Döner kebab is very similar to the Greek gyro or Arabic shawarma but is unique in it's simplistic additions of tomatoes, pickles, and occasionally lettuce and onion. It is a popular choice when on the run or when you're heading home after a long night of hitting the bars and clubs. It is a must try!!
