It’s no secret that Turkey has a rich culinary culture, from Kebap to Börek, Mantı and Dolmas. However, for some of the best finds, one need only take to the streets. Whether you’re in a hurry or on a tight budget, the street food in Istanbul will get anyone’s tummy rumbling.
Street food is notorious for being cheap, fast, and delicious, which is perfect in the fast paced life of Istanbul. I’ve found that there is always a time and occasion to stop by a street vendor and get something to eat, whether for a quick snack or a filling meal.
When walking down the famous Istiklal street, one only need to follow their nose to the closest food cart where there are freshly roasted chestnuts and perfectly charred corn on the cob. Walk a bit farther and you’ll hear the calls of the mussel vendors, selling mussels by the piece that are filled with rice and spices. If you take a turn to one of the street-side bars, you’re sure to be offered fresh peanuts on ice, that go perfectly with a cold beer.
